Bio Robert Chase is the only son of Rowan and Marie Chase. He was born and raised in Sydney, Australia where he went on to complete his MD at the University of Sydney’s Medical School. When Chase was in his early teens, his father left his mother for a younger woman, and Marie soon plunged in to bouts of heavy drinking to try and cope with being left alone. She soon became an alcoholic and when Chase was sixteen, he had to single-handedly nurse his mother through it. The drinking soon killed her, leading to Chase finding her dead one night when he was seventeen after an argument with Rowan over Chase’s school fees which led her to go on a dangerous binge and die of alcohol poisoning. After his mother’s death, Chase found it difficult to cope. He didn’t get along well with estranged father and their relationship had always been strained. At the age of twenty-four, after completing med school with flying colours, Chase applied for a job overseas in the Intensive Care Unit at Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. He was offered the job six weeks later and less than a week following, Chase had packed up his Australian life and boarded a flight to New Jersey. He worked in the ICU at Princeton Plainsboro for no less than three months before rumours suggested the world-renowned Dr Gregory House was seeking a new fellow in his Department of Diagnostic Medicine. Chase, having always been ambitious and determined in his career, set about making sure he got the position. Typically of House, it had nothing really to do with Chase’s doctoring abilities that got him the job. House was intrigued by the Aussie’s drive to score the position and the rest is history. Chase survived under House’s tutelage for three years working in a team with Allison Cameron and Eric Foreman before House deemed it “time for a change” and fired him. Although pissed off by the situation at first, and not having any real clue as to the real reason House fired him, Chase went on to accept a job as Senior Attending on Princeton Plainsboro’s Surgical team, where he now plans to work his way up the career ladder. Although uncertain of working in surgery initially, he has taken to the job like a duck to water and more than enjoys the times he can call the shots regarding surgery for House and his new team. |
personality Chase tackles life with a typically Australian laid-back attitude. He has a dry, often wicked sense of humour which is why he is usually one of the only people who will laugh at House’s crass and sarcastic humour. It generally takes a lot to phase Chase, but he harbours a determined drive when he is passionate about something. Although seen as quite a promiscuous and fun person, Chase is a true romantic at heart. He enjoys the courting of a new romance and is looking for someone who wants the same things in life that he yearns for. He is a massive flirt, and his humour and charm usually coming through as the basis for romantic hook-ups. When it comes to his career, outwardly, he comes across as slightly arrogant and self-preserving, known in the past to do what it takes to protect his job. Under the surface, however, he is a fiercely loyal and reliable workmate and in the past was regularly the only one of House’s fellows who would side with him and agree with him. Some believe it’s because Chase does what he needs to to ‘feather his own nest’, but it is really because he highly respects House and even deep down likes him, despite being the brunt of many of House’s insults. |
